If Drew’s review brought you here, welcome. This is the trailer, built by hand in California, light enough to tow with almost anything, and yours in weeks instead of months. Here’s what it costs, what it weighs, and how to get one.
The Three Things People Ask First
- What it costs: A fully functional rig starts at $10,500. Most builds land between $11,500 and $15,500 once they’re set up the way people actually camp.
I publish real numbers because I’d rather you know now than fill out a form and wait.
- What tows it: About 960 lbs dry. That’s light enough for a Subaru, a RAV4, a CX-5. There is no truck required. Most small SUVs and four-cylinder crossovers pull one without complaint.
- How soon: Weeks, not months. I build a small number at a time on purpose, so each one gets my full attention, and you’re not waiting a year for a camping trip.
Why It Tows So Light
The whole reason a small SUV can pull one of these is weight, and the weight is a design choice, not an accident. A welded steel frame, an aluminum skin, marine-grade plywood cabin, and no heavy rear galley hanging off the back. Simpler, lighter, fewer things to break. In a world of $5 gas, a trailer you can tow with the car you already own changes what a trip costs.
Who Builds It?
I’m Nathan. My dad taught me to build things with my hands when I was a kid, the basics of woodworking, how to use a table saw without losing a finger, and I’ve never found anything I’d rather do. I’ve built trailers under the Second Wind name since 2014, by hand, one at a time, out of my shop in California.
When you call, you get the person who cut the wood and wired the lights, not a dealer, not a call center. There’s no showroom full of inventory, because every trailer I build was ordered by someone specific.
That’s the trade: you wait a little, and you get something built to last by someone who’ll still pick up the phone in five years.
The One Thing To Do Next
If the video got your attention, the next step is easy: tell me what you’re picturing. I’ll give you a straight answer on whether a teardrop is right for you, what it’d cost, and when I could have it ready.
Email me: build@secondwindtrailers.com Call or text: (916) 792-6915 I answer my own messages. If I don’t pick up, I’m in the shop — I’ll get back to you the same day.
No mystery pricing.
Prices start at $10,500 + choose from available upgrades (prices shown) = know exactly what your build costs. It’s really that simple.
Don’t Just Take My Word For It
“This little trailer we call ‘Pearl’ handles all these obstacles with zero damage to the unit… All things considered, Pearl pulled like it was part of my Honda Passport and the bumpers did not fall off. I am thrilled I chose Nathan and Second Wind Trailers for my teardrop trailer travel adventure.”
“I love the way it looks and the mattress is good too. I get so many compliments on the style. Every time I take it out, people tell me how much they love it.”
“I have a lot of freedom to road-trip comfortably around the country. I enjoy having that option instead of needing to book hotels or rent a camper every time I want to use one.”
Favorite feature: “Lightweight and easy to tow.” One word to describe the trailer: “Easier.” Why Second Wind: “Not a lot of options at a reasonable price out in the market. Second Wind could customize the trailer to fit my needs and price was right for me.”
“We looked at teardrop builds all over the country and decided that it was important to work with a California builder. That helped us come to the conclusion that the two best builders for us were in Northern California. The teardrop that Nathan built was the perfect fit for us.”
